“As in all matter organized biological units. There is a pattern, an order, in human bodies…. Rolfers make a life study of relating bodies and their fields to the earth and it’s gravity field, and we organize the body so that the Earth’s gravity field can reinforce the bodies natural alignment within that field.”

Rolfing

What is it?
Rolfing is an original and scientifically validated method of integrative, hands on tissue manipulation developed over 50 years ago by Dr. Ida P. Rolf. Working with fascia (a connective tissue that gives our body shape, supports the skeleton and soft tissues) we gently work to restore normal length and function of the deep connective fibers of the fascia and allow changes in the bodies' ‘wrapping’ to occur.

A Holistic Approach
The purpose of Rolfing is to realign the body in relationship with gravity. Rolfing views the person as a ‘whole’ by creating a custom “fit” for each individual by taking in to account that persons life experiences.

“Rolfing evokes a series of changes through which the body as whole will come into better alignment, more integrated, nearly optimal for his /her function as a total being.”

An Educational Process
Rolfing differs from other body-centered therapies by engaging the client in the process. It can be a powerful tool to encourage awareness of tension and holding patterns in the body, becoming an educational process that will continue long after the sessions have ended.

The Ten Series
Rolfing is traditionally offered in a ten session series that works from the feet to the head and from the surface of the body to the deep tissue. The sessions are one hour long and can be weekly or
bi- weekly.
Once the series is completed it does not have to be repeated however. Some individuals elect to continue the process by receiving a 3 or a 5 sessions post-ten Rolfing series.
